Known for her incredibly elaborate, baroque but brief costumes; her ability to sing, dance and sashay across a stage in sky-high stilettos, while balancing a feathered headdress atop her head; the Showgirl is considered a piece of art or a human sculpture. Although Showgirl revues are slowly disappearing on The Strip, the Stockton, California artist who paints under the name La Marr, wanted to take us on a ride through Las Vegas entertainment history with this dazzling tribute. | The trail of Painted Ponies began in 2000 as a Statewide art project in New Mexico, USA. Lifesize resin horses were transformed by local artists using a wide variety of inspirations and became a new art form, combining folk art and fine art to deliver spectacular results that were displayed in a number of locations, before being auctioned off for a variety of different charities. These sculptures have now been transformed into a collectable set of figurines known as the Trail of Painted Ponies. | |
